The Performance Assessment of Wave and Tidal Array Systems (PerAWaT) project, launched in October 2009 with £8m of ETI investment. The project delivered validated, commercial software tools capable of significantly reducing the levels of uncertainty associated with predicting the energy yield of major wave and tidal stream energy arrays. It also produced information that will help reduce commercial risk of future large scale wave and tidal array developments.
This deliverable is concerned with the computational fluid dynamics modelling of an unducted horizontal-axis tidal current turbine, with the aim to construct and verify a numerical model that can be used as a tool to investigate and parameterize the wake behind a tidal current turbine. The work is described in two main sections:
The preliminary work to better understand the turbine using more basic modellingapproaches.
the development and application of the CFD model of the turbine.
This deliverable forms the foundation to all other deliverables in this work package
