Abstract |
The Performance Assessment of Wave and Tidal Array Systems (PerAWaT) project, launched in October 2009 with £8m of ETI investment. The project delivered validated, commercial software tools capable of significantly reducing the levels of uncertainty associated with predicting the energy yield of major wave and tidal stream energy arrays. It also produced information that will help reduce commercial risk of future large scale wave and tidal array developments.
This deliverable sets out the project’s approach to device scale modelling of tidal devices. The report provides a clear definition of the requirements and methodologies being used for the modelling, along with the subsequent methods for integrating device scale models into the final array tool. Calculation of uncertainties in the final combined energy yield prediction model is also reviewed. Limitations andconstraints such as blockages and free-surface interactions are discussed and options for dealing with them explored. Following on from this deliverable, numerical and experimental modelling were undertaken |
