Abstract Soil carbon and Green House Gas (GHG) (CO2, CH4 and N2O) changes are an indicator of soil productivity and contribute a significant proportion of an overall bioenergy Life Cycle Analysis. A fundamental requirement of this work was the quantification of Land Use Change (LUC) and crop management impacts on soil carbon and nitrogen pools together with the GHG emissions under Bioenergy Crop land use changes. The approach taken was to make use of existing networks of bioenergy field sites/locations in addition to taking a chronosequence approach to understanding LUC impacts on soil carbon and GHGs over longer timescales
