Abstract |
The UK has committed to an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. CO2 is the primary issue. Energy use in buildings accounts for around a significant proportion of the UK’s CO2 emissions, and the majority of that is used for space and water heating.The ETI has commissioned a major three-phase Smart Systems and Heat programme in 2012, to design, develop and demonstrate a cost optimised, smart energy system suitable for future roll out within the UK, The programme will focus on the delivery of heat whilst meeting the needs of local energy consumers.
The three distinct phases of the programme are:- Phase 1:The first phase will develop the toolkit and capacity to deliver the prototype ‘product’ to mass market consumers;
- Phase 2:The second phase will validate this with a significant system level demonstration;
- Phase 3:The third phase will focus on commercialisation.
