Content Types in the EDC

The content held within the EDC comes from a variety of sources depending on the type of material.
If you would like to suggest specific additional content, please Contact us

Data

Data deposited with us comes from the UKERC researcher community and other researchers who would like to use a domain respository. This is mediated by EDC staff. Metadata only records for other datasets related to our energy domain are created by EDC staff.

For UKERC4 all research data outputs will be held either in the EDC or in another domain respository. If data is more suitable for another archive, a metadata only record will be created.
Other datasets of interest to the energy community can be suggested and each will be considered individually.

There is a long term preservation remit for data held in the EDC. There is no expectation that content held in the EDC will be removed. Judgements will be made for metadata only records which no longer point to the resource. This will be captured through our link checking procedures.

Data is expected to be open, but if a case can be made for restrictions then they can be applied.

It is necessary to register with the EDC in order to access some datasets, see License and access rights for more details.

Projects

We routinely classify and release information on projects relating to the energy sector from the ESRC and EPSRC. Information on projects funded by OfGem is added on a quarterly basis. The catalogue also has project information from a wide range of government and industry bodies which have been added on a one-off basis.

The lead partner of a project (defined as the person/body who is contracted by the funding body) is called the "Principal Investigator" (PI) - there can only be one PI for each project. Other partners who are known to be receiving funding to carry out the project are known as "Other Investigators" (OIs). Other organisations associated with the project but not in receipt of funding are known as "Industrial Collaborators" (ICs). Individual researchers who have helped propose the project and whose salary costs are being paid using the project's funding are sometimes known as "Recognised Researchers" (RRs). There is no limit to the number of OIs, ICs, or RRs for a given project.

Records once approved are not removed

Publications

We routinely classify and release publications from the UKERC community, with a particular focus on those published by UKERC. Information comes from UKERC colleagues.

There is a long term preservation remit for this content type. There is no expectation that content held in the EDC will be removed.

Roadmaps

These are added to the system by EDC staff when relevant ones become available. Records will be removed if external documents are no longer available or records held are superceded

ETI publications, projects and data

The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) was a £400m industry and UK government partnership in low carbon energy system planning and technology development, which was operational between 2007 and 2019. Its mission was to accelerate the development, demonstration and eventual commercial deployment of a focused portfolio of energy technologies, to facilitate energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help achieve energy and climate change goals.

The ETI Publications Catalogue contains the majority of the publically accessible ETI outputs - Journal Articles, Books, Book Chapters, Conference Papers, ETI Publications (working papers and reports), Presentations, and Calls for proposals. Each output has been linked to the relevant ETI project (in the projects catalogue), and if applicable linked to a dataset which has been lodged in the Data catalogue.

No more content will be added to this collection
