Objectives | The objectives of the research are to: (i) refine the methodology used in previous TEBPp surveys, in order to develop KPIs which closely reflect the operational realities of distribution across the pallet network sector; (ii) to collect KPIs at both sectoral and company level for a wide range of participants;(iii) to stimulate greater awareness within the industry of current levels of efficiency and vehicle utilisation and to promote opportunities for improvement.
Abstract | Previous work in the areas of the food supply chain and non-food retail distribution produced 5 operational KPIs covering vehicle fill, time utilisation, empty running, deviations from schedule and fuel consumption. It is envisaged that this research would explore the potential of using generic KPIs, similar to those previously produced, as well as developing a series of sector-specific KPIs. The KPIs will then enable participating companies to benchmark their individual performance againstthatof other firms within the sector. By establishing baseline measures of utilisation and efficiency, the KPIs will also help to identify opportunities for improvement.
